Brass is a living metal. It breathes with you — responding to your skin, your climate, the life you live. Over time it may deepen in tone or develop a soft golden patina. This is not wear. It is presence. The metal recording the life it has been part of.
With simple care, your piece will last a lifetime and beyond.
- Keep your piece dry — remove before swimming, showering, or exercising
- Avoid contact with perfume, body lotion, oils, and cleaning products — apply these before putting on your piece
- After wearing, wipe gently with the polishing cloth included with your order to remove any skin oils
- Store in the pouch or box your piece arrived in, away from moisture and direct sunlight
If your piece has darkened or lost its shine, it can be easily restored:
- Rub gently with a fresh slice of lemon or a small amount of lemon juice
- Wash with mild soap and warm water
- Rinse thoroughly
- Dry completely with a soft cloth — do not leave wet
For a deeper clean, a soft brass polishing cloth works well. Avoid abrasive materials or chemical cleaners, which can damage the surface.
Brass naturally oxidises over time, which can cause darkening — particularly in areas that contact the skin most. This is part of the nature of the metal, not a defect. Some wearers love the depth a patina brings. Others prefer to keep the piece bright. Both are right. The care instructions above let you choose.
Each KANTU piece carries a light protective coating applied during finishing. This slows oxidation and extends the brightness of the piece. Over time and with regular wear, this coating naturally wears in areas of high contact — this is when the polishing and lemon method works best.
Brass contains copper and zinc. Some people with sensitive skin may experience a reaction to prolonged contact with brass. If you notice irritation, we recommend wearing the piece for shorter periods and keeping it very dry. Rings and cuffs are most likely to cause contact — earrings and pendants are generally less so.
